A transforaminal cervical root block is a minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose and treat pain originating from the cervical spine, particularly in the nerve roots exiting the spine. During the procedure, a local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory medication are injected near the affected nerve root under X-ray guidance.
This injection can provide temporary pain relief and help pinpoint the source of the pain, allowing for more targeted treatment. It is often considered as part of non-operative management for cervical spine conditions such as cervical radiculopathy (pain radiating down the arm due to nerve compression in the neck).
